I had a burger craving this morning, so, emboldened by my success with The Soup, I told my roommate to get burger fixings and I'd take a whack at producing food from same.

Good idea.

My success is at least partly owing to the presence of cheese and bacon, which can elevate even the worst burger — which these were not — into the realm of the edible, but I claim some of the credit too: I sautéed the onions. This is such an obvious notion and so effective and tasty, I'm bewildered that so few people seem to do it.

Speaking of musical instruments, a while back I decided that while the contrabass was a suitable instrument-of-choice for my character at Threshold, it wasn't sitting quite as right as it could, and I poked around looking at some of the more obscure members of the family until I discovered the viola d'amore. I'm in love. It's so pretty. There are some .mp3s from this guy's CD here, which you want to download, especially the Bach.

I actually had a friend in high school who played the viola d'amore. It was really pretty and impressive that she could do it that well, but not something I wanted to try.
